Post-Publication Discussion

PUBLICATION ETHICS & POLICIES

Post-Publication Discussion

Encouraging constructive scholarly dialogue and protecting the integrity of the published research record.

Jurnal Pendidikan UNIGA recognizes that scholarly communication continues after publication. The journal welcomes constructive, evidence-based discussion of published articles to encourage academic dialogue, clarify research findings, and maintain the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.

1. Purpose and Scope

Post-publication discussion provides an opportunity for readers, researchers, educators, and authors to critically engage with articles published in Jurnal Pendidikan UNIGA. Discussions may address:

  • Research methods, data analysis, and interpretation of findings.
  • Theoretical arguments, conceptual frameworks, and scholarly perspectives.
  • The accuracy of facts, references, citations, tables, or figures.
  • The implications, limitations, and potential applications of published research.
  • Questions or concerns that may affect the interpretation or reliability of an article.

2. Forms of Discussion

Post-publication contributions may take the following forms:

Letter to the Editor
A scholarly comment, question, or critique concerning a published article.
Author Response
A response from the original author or authors to a substantive comment or critique.
Scholarly Commentary
An academic contribution offering an alternative interpretation, clarification, or further discussion of published research.
Report of an Error or Concern
Information about a possible factual error, research integrity issue, or other matter requiring editorial assessment.

The editorial team determines the appropriate format for each contribution. Acceptance for publication is subject to editorial assessment and, where appropriate, peer review.

3. Submission Procedure

Readers wishing to submit a post-publication discussion should contact the journal through its official editorial contact channel or submission system, as applicable.

Submissions should include:

  • The title and publication details of the article being discussed, including its DOI or article URL where available.
  • The contributor's name, institutional affiliation, and valid contact information.
  • A clear explanation of the issue, question, or scholarly argument.
  • Supporting evidence, references, or data where relevant.
  • Disclosure of relevant funding or conflicts of interest.

Contributions should be original, relevant to the published article, and written in a clear, professional, and respectful manner. The journal may request additional information before proceeding with an assessment.

4. Editorial Assessment

The Editor-in-Chief or a designated editor assesses each submission for relevance, scholarly merit, clarity, supporting evidence, and compliance with publication ethics. The editorial team may request revisions, consult an independent expert, or decline a contribution that does not meet the journal's requirements.

Differences in academic interpretation or theoretical perspective do not, by themselves, establish that a published article is incorrect or that research misconduct has occurred. Such differences should be evaluated on their scholarly merits.

5. Right of Reply

When a submitted discussion raises substantive criticism of a published article, the original author or authors will normally be invited to respond before the editorial team makes a publication decision.

The response should address the main points raised and provide relevant scholarly reasoning or evidence. The editorial team may assess the discussion and response together to support a balanced academic exchange.

An invitation to respond does not guarantee publication. Both the discussion and the response must meet the journal's editorial and ethical requirements. If the original authors do not respond, the editor may decide whether the discussion can proceed based on the available evidence and circumstances.

6. Standards of Conduct

All contributors are expected to:

  • Focus on scholarly content rather than making personal attacks against authors or other individuals.
  • Support substantive claims with appropriate evidence or references.
  • Avoid defamatory statements, discriminatory language, harassment, and unsupported accusations.
  • Respect confidentiality, research ethics, and applicable privacy requirements.
  • Disclose relevant competing interests and avoid misleading representations of evidence.

Submissions that violate these standards or fall outside the scope of scholarly discussion may be returned, revised, or rejected.

7. Publication of Discussions and Responses

Accepted discussions and author responses may be published as a Letter to the Editor, commentary, or another appropriate scholarly contribution, subject to the journal's editorial procedures and publication arrangements.

Where practicable, the published discussion and response will be linked to the original article so readers can consult the relevant scholarly exchange. The journal will provide clear publication information and apply its applicable authorship, copyright, licensing, and disclosure policies.

8. Errors and Research Integrity Concerns

If a discussion identifies a credible concern about factual accuracy, research ethics, authorship, plagiarism, data reliability, or another potential integrity issue, the editorial team will assess the matter under the relevant journal policies.

Depending on the evidence, the journal may request clarification, consult independent experts, or contact the relevant institution where appropriate. If formal editorial action is necessary, the journal may issue a correction, an Expression of Concern, or a retraction in accordance with its Correction and Retraction Policy.

Suspected research misconduct will be handled under the journal's Allegation of Research Misconduct policy. Post-publication discussion does not replace the journal's formal procedures for investigating such concerns.

9. Fairness and Transparency

Jurnal Pendidikan UNIGA aims to handle post-publication discussions fairly, impartially, and as promptly as reasonably possible. Editorial decisions will be based on scholarly merit, the available evidence, and the journal's publication ethics policies.

The purpose of post-publication discussion is to strengthen scholarly communication, encourage constructive academic debate, and protect the reliability of the published record. It is not intended to penalize authors for legitimate differences of opinion or honest mistakes.

Ethical Reference

This policy is informed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidance on post-publication discussions and corrections.
