Plagiarism Screening

Ensuring originality, academic integrity, and responsible scholarly publishing.

Jurnal Pendidikan UNIGA is committed to maintaining academic integrity and publishing original scholarly work. All submitted manuscripts must undergo similarity screening using Turnitin before proceeding to the peer-review process. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are original and that all sources are properly acknowledged.

REQUIRED SIMILARITY CHECK
Turnitin

All submitted manuscripts must be checked using Turnitin.

Maximum Similarity Index
20%

Manuscripts must have an overall similarity index of no more than 20%, subject to editorial assessment of the similarity report.

1. Screening Procedure

Initial Similarity Check

Every submitted manuscript must undergo Turnitin screening before peer review. The editorial team examines the similarity report to identify potentially problematic text overlap and unattributed sources.

Editorial Assessment

The editorial team assesses the overall similarity index, matched sources, citation practices, quotations, and the context of overlapping text. A similarity score alone does not determine whether plagiarism has occurred.

Manuscripts Above 20%

Manuscripts exceeding the 20% threshold may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected, depending on the extent and nature of the similarity. Serious plagiarism or substantial unattributed copying may result in rejection regardless of the overall percentage.

Final Similarity Check

The editorial team may conduct an additional Turnitin check after revision or before publication to ensure that the manuscript continues to meet the journal's originality requirements.

2. Forms of Plagiarism

Plagiarism and unethical text reuse include, but are not limited to:

  • Copying words, ideas, data, images, or findings without appropriate acknowledgment.
  • Paraphrasing sources without proper citation.
  • Reusing previously published material without appropriate attribution or disclosure.
  • Submitting duplicate or substantially redundant publications.
  • Misrepresenting the originality or ownership of scholarly work.

3. Authors' Responsibilities

  • Ensure that submitted manuscripts are original and not under simultaneous consideration by another journal.
  • Provide accurate citations and references for all sources used.
  • Obtain permission for third-party material when required.
  • Review and revise problematic similarities identified by the editorial team.
  • Provide a Turnitin similarity report when required by the journal's submission instructions.

Important Editorial Principle

A similarity index of 20% or below does not automatically guarantee acceptance, and a score above 20% does not by itself prove plagiarism. The editorial team makes the final decision after evaluating the similarity report, source attribution, and the nature of the overlap. Confirmed plagiarism may result in rejection in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policy.
