Abstract
The low oral and written communication skills of second-grade students at SDN 1 Pancasura serve as the background for this study. The dominant use of the local language in daily activities has made them unaccustomed to using Indonesian in the classroom. This condition creates obstacles such as hesitation, low self-confidence, and difficulty expressing ideas verbally or in writing. The main objective of this research is to analyze the application of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model to optimize students' speaking and writing abilities. The mini-research in this study employed a descriptive qualitative approach divided into three learning sessions. The series of activities proceeded gradually through story video screenings, group discussions, role-playing, as well as writing and presenting fable stories. The CIRC model, combined with cooperative and collaborative approaches, proved capable of fostering a more interactive and enjoyable learning atmosphere. Students who were previously passive began to speak up, express ideas, and produce simple writings. Their self-confidence and social interaction among peers also showed significant improvement during the learning process. The effectiveness of the CIRC model in developing speaking and writing skills makes it a recommended alternative language learning strategy for elementary schools. This model can create a more meaningful learning experience for students.
