Artificial Intelligence Policy
Artificial Intelligence Policy
Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam (JPAI)
1. Policy Statement
Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam (JPAI) recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies can support academic writing and research. Their use must be responsible, transparent, and consistent with academic integrity, research ethics, and publication ethics. AI tools must not replace the intellectual contribution, critical judgment, and accountability of human authors.
2. Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI tools to support manuscript preparation, including improving language and readability, organizing ideas, assisting literature exploration, and supporting data analysis when appropriate. Authors remain responsible for ensuring that the manuscript represents their own scholarly contribution and that all AI-generated content is carefully evaluated.
Authors must:
- Verify the accuracy of AI-generated information, facts, interpretations, and references.
- Ensure that all citations and references are genuine, relevant, and traceable to their original sources.
- Review and revise AI-generated content before including it in the manuscript.
- Protect confidential information, personal data, research participants, and intellectual property when using AI tools.
- Avoid using AI to fabricate or manipulate research data, results, quotations, or references.
3. Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must disclose the use of generative AI tools when these tools contribute to the preparation of manuscript content, the creation of figures or other research materials, or the research process in a manner relevant to the article. The disclosure should identify the tool used, its purpose, and how its output was reviewed by the authors.
For AI use in research methods, data processing, or analysis, authors should describe the tool and its role in the appropriate section of the manuscript. Routine spelling, grammar, and punctuation checks that do not generate substantive content generally do not require disclosure.
4. AI Declaration Statement
When disclosure is required, authors should include a statement in the manuscript before the reference list. The following format may be used:
Declaration of AI Use
During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [name of AI tool] for [purpose of use]. The author(s) reviewed and revised the generated content, verified its accuracy, and take full responsibility for the final content of the manuscript.
5. AI Authorship
AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to JPAI. Authorship is reserved for individuals who make a genuine scholarly contribution and can accept responsibility for the work. All listed authors must meet the journal's authorship criteria and approve the final version of the manuscript.
6. Prohibited Uses of AI
The use of AI is prohibited when it compromises research integrity, academic honesty, confidentiality, or publication ethics. Prohibited practices include:
- Fabricating or falsifying data, research findings, quotations, or references.
- Presenting AI-generated content as verified original research without appropriate human evaluation and disclosure when required.
- Using AI to facilitate plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other forms of academic misconduct.
- Generating misleading images, evidence, or research materials that distort the actual findings.
- Uploading confidential manuscripts, unpublished research, or sensitive personal information to AI services without proper authorization and adequate privacy protection.
7. Use of AI by Editors and Reviewers
Editors and reviewers must protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all related correspondence. They must not upload unpublished manuscripts or confidential review materials to external AI tools in ways that could compromise confidentiality, intellectual property, or personal data.
Editorial decisions and peer-review assessments must remain under human responsibility. AI tools must not replace the independent scholarly judgment of editors and reviewers. Any permitted supportive use must comply with confidentiality requirements and the journal's applicable procedures.
8. Editorial Assessment and Compliance
JPAI may request clarification regarding the use of AI in a submitted manuscript when necessary. The editorial team will assess whether AI use complies with this policy and the journal's publication ethics. Undisclosed or inappropriate use that affects the integrity of the manuscript may result in a request for revision, rejection, correction, or retraction, depending on the circumstances.
9. Author Responsibility
Authors retain full responsibility for the originality, accuracy, validity, ethical compliance, and integrity of their submitted work, regardless of whether AI tools have been used. AI-generated output must not be treated as an authoritative source without independent verification.
10. Policy Review
JPAI may review and update this policy in response to developments in AI technology, research ethics, and scholarly publishing standards. Authors, editors, and reviewers are expected to follow the version of the policy applicable to their submission or editorial activity.
