Transforming youth physical education is an urgent need to address the challenges of 21st-century learning, which demands active participation, autonomy, and holistic competency development. However, physical education teaching practices in secondary schools still tend to be teacher-centered, resulting in suboptimal student engagement, motivation, and physical literacy. This study aims to analyze the impact of a Student-Centered Learning (SCL)-based physical education approach on student engagement, intrinsic motivation, physical literacy, and learning outcomes at SMA Negeri 6 Makassar. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a mixed-method approach, involving 80 students (40 in the experimental group and 40 in the control group) over a 12-week intervention. Instruments included the Student Engagement Scale, the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory, a physical literacy test, and a learning outcomes rubric. Data were analyzed using t-tests, ANCOVA, and Cohen's d effect size. The results showed significant improvements in the experimental group: learning engagement (+14.85 points; d = 1.45), intrinsic motivation (+15.65 points; d = 1.52), physical literacy (+14.85 points; d = 1.38), and physical education learning outcomes (+15.80 points; d = 1.60) with p < 0.001. ANCOVA analysis showed a 41% contribution from the intervention (η² p = 0.41). It was concluded that the SCL approach effectively transformed youth sports education by comprehensively improving cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects.Downloads
