Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the implementation of traditional games on improving gross motor skills of seventh grade students of Budi Mulia Junior High School. The research is motivated by the low gross motor skills of students, especially in the aspects of balance, coordination, speed, and agility, as well as the lack of variety in PJOK learning which causes students to be less active. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method through a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research sample consisted of 23 students selected using a cluster random sampling technique. The research instruments included the Airplane Balance Test, Side Stepping Test, 20 Meter Sprint, and Shuttle Run Test to measure students' gross motor skills. Data analysis was carried out using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and the Paired Sample t-test with the help of SPSS version 27. The results of the normality test showed that the pretest and posttest data were normally distributed with significance values of 0.442 and 0.215, respectively (Sig. > 0.05). The results of the Paired Sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 (Sig. <0.05) with a calculated t-value of -15.255, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results. The average score of students' gross motor skills increased from 12.3478 in the pretest to 15.7826 in the posttest, with an average increase of 3.43478. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the implementation of traditional games has a positive and significant effect on improving students' gross motor skills. Therefore, traditional games can be used as an effective alternative to physical education (PJOK) learning to improve students' gross motor skills.
