Abstract

The use of monotonous conventional teaching methods in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning is one of the main causes of poor mastery of basic volleyball techniques, particularly underhand passing (passing bawah), among junior high school students. This study aims to analyze the effect of the deep learning method on improving the underhand passing technique of grade VII students at SMP Negeri 17 Kota Tangerang Selatan. A quasi-experimental design with two group pretest-posttest was employed. The sample consisted of 84 students divided into 42 students in the experimental group (deep learning method) and 42 students in the control group (conventional method). The research instrument was a rubric for assessing basic underhand passing technique. The intervention was conducted over six sessions integrating direct movement experience, deep reflection, collaboration, self-assessment, and technology-based media support. Statistical analysis showed that the experimental group's average score increased from 24.60 at pretest to 41.88 at posttest (an increase of 17.28 points). The Paired Sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The Independent Sample T-Test produced t = 9.004 with Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000, a posttest mean difference of 7.000 points, and Cohen's d = 2.039 (very large effect). This study concludes that the deep learning method has a significant positive effect on improving underhand passing technique and is more effective than conventional methods in PJOK learning at the junior high school level.
