Abstract

This study aims to solve the problem of physical fitness levels of male students aged 9–12 years at SDN 1 Kedurus, Karangpilang, Surabaya. The study used a quantitative approach with a descriptive observational design. The study sample consisted of 56 male students selected using a purposive sampling technique based on the Slovin formula from a total population of 128 students. The instrument used was the Nusantara Student Fitness Test (TKPN) which includes measuring body mass index (BMI), V-Sit and Reach, sit-ups, squat thrusts, and Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run (PACER). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine the distribution of students' physical fitness levels. The results showed that the physical fitness levels of male students at SDN 1 Kedurus were dominated by the sufficient/moderate category with 38 students (67.9%), the good category with 8 students (14.3%), and the poor category with 10 students (17.9%), while the very good and very poor categories were not found. The average value of students' physical fitness was 3.005 with a standard deviation of 0.4056, a minimum value of 2.0, and a maximum of 3.8. Factors that influence students' physical fitness levels include extracurricular activities, gadget playing habits, and unhealthy eating patterns. Thus, the physical fitness level of male students at SDN 1 Kedurus is included in the moderate category. This study is expected to be a basis for developing physical activity programs to improve the physical fitness of elementary school students.
